Torrence Can’t Dodge Hellmuth’s Aces, Baby!

In the 2021 WSOP.com Online Bracelet Event #17: $400 NLH 8-Max it was Level 16 (600/1,200/150) when Phil “Lumestackin” Hellmuth raised to 2,400 under the gun and Carlos “Soular81” Montes called from the cutoff. Lily “theslimshady” Torrence then three-bet jammed for 36,070 from the big blind and Hellmuth called off for 19,125. Montes got out of the way and the hands were turned up.

Lily “theslimshady” Torrence: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Phil “Lumestackin” Hellmuth: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

The board ran out {k-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and Hellmuth’s pocket rockets earned him a double.

Top Set vs. Royal Flush Draw

In the same tournament, just 15 players remained in Level 32 (16,000/32,000/4,000) when Douglas “CheeksK” Kurth raised to 64,000 from the hijack and Eugene “Beratna” Kwak called from the button. Michael “EZSqueeZ” Howell then three-bet to 192,000 from the big blind, Kurth folded, and Kwak called to see a flop of {4-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}.

Howell continued for 96,000 and then called off for 808,380 when Kwak moved all in.

Michael “EZSqueeZ” Howell: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Eugene “Beratna” Kwak: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Howell had a set but Kwak held a Royal Flush draw! The {8-Hearts} turn was of no consequence but the {9-Clubs} river was as Kwak made a straight to eliminated Howell in 15th place for $3,361.50. Kwak went on to finish in third place for $32,967.

No Big Blind Special for Hellmuth

Hellmuth no big blind special.

In Event #22: $600 NLH Knockout it was Level 19 (1,200/2,400/300) when action on the table quickly folded around to Ryan “Adopt_aDogg0” Leng who raised all in for 53,573 from the small blind and Phil “Lumestackin” Hellmuth called off his 20,810 stack from the big blind.

Ryan “Adopt_aDogg0” Leng: {q-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Phil “Lumestackin” Hellmuth: {a-Clubs}{7-Spades}

Hellmuth was ahead until the {q-Clubs}{j-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop appeared pairing Leng’s queen. The {9-Spades} turn was no help to Hellmuth nor was the {k-Diamonds} river and Leng, who a week earlier captured his second bracelet, collected his bounty.

Riess Straightened Out

In the same tournament, it was Level 29 (10,000/20,000/2,500) when Adrian “sacakewalk” Sacher raised to 32,000 from the button, 2013 WSOP Main Event champ Ryan “BitC0in” Riess jammed for 109,620 from the small blind and Sacher called.

Riess had the big lead with the {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} dominating the {k-Clubs}{6-Clubs} of Sacher.

The flop came the {7-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} to make things interesting. The turn was the {8-Diamonds} to remarkably give Sacher the straight and the {q-Diamonds} completed the board to send Riess home in 31st place for $1,058.

Easy Come, Easy Go for Joshua Ray

In Event #23: $500 NLH Turbo, the blinds were 1,700/3,400/340 when Jaroslaw “szajbusjeden” Salabaj moved all in for 1,980 under the gun and Mohammad “Tmomoney” Mufti raised all in for 45,304 two spots over. Jose “Aiden13” Ramos called off for 42,922 from the small blind and Joshua “Zeal1906” Ray, who had the biggest stack, called out of the big blind.

Mohammad “Tmomoney” Mufti: {9-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Jaroslaw “szajbusjeden” Salabaj: {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Jose “Aiden13” Ramos: {q-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}
Joshua “Zeal1906” Ray: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Ray had the best hand and it held on the clean {k-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades}{9-Hearts} runout to give him a pile of chips. Unfortunately for him, they didn’t get him all the way to the money.

With the blinds at 8,000/16,000/1,600, Ray moved all in for 87,791 from early position and Jeffrey “PlusEv905” Schwartz called two spots over. The rest of the players folded and the hands were turned up.

Joshua “Zeal1906” Ray: {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Jeffrey “PlusEv905” Schwartz: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

It was a flip and Ray was looking to improve to stay alive. Unfortunately for him, that proved easier said than done as the board ran out a lowly {8-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. With that, Ray fell in 92nd place just two spots short of the money.
