On Sunday, January 30th, 2022 the young forward for Manchester United, Mason Greenwood, was apparently arrested on suspicions of rape and assault on a woman following a social media post containing visual and audial evidence of the incident in question at the moment.
Manchester United has publicly announced that the 20 – year – old Greenwood will not train or participate in their upcoming matches until further notice. The police force out in Manchester, England did not officially name Mason, although the statement they released seemed to cite him as being the person under investigation at the moment.
Greenwood currently is being held in custody by the police force of Manchester, England, and he is being held primarily for questioning as the enquiries and the investigation regarding these accusations of rape and assault are ongoing right now.
These very serious allegations were initially posted early on the morning of Sunday, January 30th, 2022 on the Instagram account of a battered woman who just so happened to uploaded images of the bruises on her body as well as the blood dripping from her lips. A voice note purporting to be of an attack was also posted. The posts were eventually all deleted from the Instagram account of the women, however they were already widely circulated all over the internet prior to being deleted from her social media account.
One of Greenwood’s biggest sponsors in Nike, disclosed their concerns of these recent accusations, and there may be immediate action taken by Nike in the near future regarding their relationship with Mason Greenwood.
Greenwood, who previously progressed through the Manchester United academy all the way up into their 1st – team, has scored 6 – goals for Man U during this current 2021 – 2022 football season. Mason had previously extended his current contract last year connecting him with Manchester United through the year of 2025 as of now.
Greenwood made his English debut back in September of 2020, but he was ultimately sent home from Iceland due to a disciplinary breach following the match. Mason has not played professional football in the English Premier League since for Gareth Southgate’s side.

“Greater Manchester Police were made aware earlier today of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence,” according to the police force revealed in a publicly released statement. “An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20’s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.
“He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.”
“Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind,” the Manchester United football club stated.
“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation,” a spokesperson of Nike expressed.
