On Friday, June 10th, 2022 the Liverpool football club claims they are close to reaching a new deal with forward Darwin Nunez for somewhere around €100m as negotiations continue to advance between the two sides. Nunez is a 22 – year – old rising star footballer that is a native of Uruguay.

Transfer Details

Nunez is pretty much all set to break Liverpool’s all – time transfer record if the football clubs and Darwin can agree upon terms on this potential record – setting contract. The agreement that is in the works is projected to be worth up to around €80m off the bat as well as including €20 million in add – ons. The deal between the clubs has yet to be finalized, but according to recent reports the talks on this transfer are progressing very well at a rapid pace.

Originally Nunez’s current team in Benfica was only willing to start the negotiations at approximately €130 million and possibly going north from there, but that would be a little unreasonable at this point in Darwin’s football career.

The Uruguay – born forward, who joined Benfica from Almeria back during the summer of 2020 for €24 million, and he is presently under contract through June of 2025. Darwin has a €150 million release clause in his current agreement.

This means that Almeria will automatically get 20 % of any profit from Nunez’s transfer deal.

Nunez attracted the attention of top – European clubs after an extremely impressive 2021 – 2022 football season in which he managed to score an amazing 34 – goals over the course of his 41 – appearances for Benfica.

Nunez was the top goal scorer in Portugal‘s top flight during the 2021 – 2022 football season with a total of 26 – goals.

Manchester United as well as Arsenal had both previously expressed strong interest in acquiring Nunez, while the Premier League champions in Manchester City considered picking him up if they were unable to sign Erling Haaland.

But it turns out that Manchester City was able to just recently sign Haaland from Borussia Dortmund back in May of 2022 for an undisclosed price.

On Thursday, June 9th, 2022 Manchester United made it clear that they are looking to sign a central – midfielder as opposed to engage in a bidding war with Liverpool for the rights to Nunez.

The head coach of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp, has held Nunez in high – praise following his current club’s 2022 Champions League quarterfinal encounter versus Benfica. Klopp said that Nunez is, “really good and has a big career ahead of him.”

Nunez, who is on international duty with Uruguay at the moment, has been trying to remain as tight – lipped as possible regarding his future, but Darwin chose his strike at Liverpool on April 13th, 2022 as he claims it was, “the best goal of his career.”
