Organizers of Regulating the Game, to be held on 6-10 March 2023 at International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney in Australia, said this week they are in the “early stages of planning” to bring the event to London, UK, in late 2023.

The inaugural edition of Regulating the Game was held in March this year in Sydney, organized by the UNLV’s International Center for Gaming Regulation (ICGR) and Senet, Australia’s specialist gambling law, regulatory and compliance advisory body. One of Senet’s Principal executives leading the conference is Paul Newson, former President of the International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR).

Regulating the Game is a 5-day education program structured to build individual and organizational capability, deepen sector knowledge, and advance thinking and discussion about contemporary best practice gambling regulation. The program is also designed to provide tools facing public policy challenges, cultivate curiosity and critical thinking, contest ideas and share insights.

The program introduces expert content, but also encourages challenge and debate about sector issues, risks and opportunities, as well as critically examines regulatory policy and practice. “The program positions attendees to understand and apply key regulatory principles, including fundamental regulatory policy and principles, engage with known and emerging issues, and help shape evidence based public policy that advances efficient and effective gambling regulation,” organizers explain.

The comprehensive program is delivered by core program faculty from the ICGR as well as distinguished guest speakers including leaders in gambling-related regulation and law, public policy, investigations, intelligence and research.

Regulating the Game includes a mix of in-person and interactive remote lectures with ICGR core program faculty and guest speakers, as well as case studies and group work. Attendees access the latest thinking and knowledge, apply principles in practice, and have the opportunity to hear from each other and benchmark regulatory frameworks and approaches with Australian and international regulators and industry stakeholders.

Among the first confirmed speakers for the March 2023 edition in Australia is Adam Rytenskild, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Tabcorp, who will deliver a keynote address. In addition, Alastair Shields, Chair of the Northern Territory Racing Commission, will also be speaking at Regulating the Game 2023.

They will be joined by Annette Kimmitt AM, CEO of the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission; Anthony Keon, CEO of NSW Hospitality and Racing, among others.

The themed approach for the 2023 program is settled, while the program faculty from the International Center for Gaming Regulation will be confirmed in coming weeks:

  • Day 1- Regulatory Briefings & Engagement
  • Day 2 – Anti-Money Laundering and Responsible Gambling
  • Day 3 – Leadership, Integrity, Ethics and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Day 4 – Industry and Regulatory Technology and Innovation
  • Day 5 – Regulatory and Industry Operations and Practice
