William Hill Embezzlement Scheme in Nevada

Industry

A minor crime syndicate has been broken up in Nevada, as a William Hill embezzlement operation was detected and stopped up by the Nevada Gaming Control Board recently. Unfortunately, this was not until the criminals had pilfered over $100,000 from the company.

Control Board Agents were tipped to the thefts back in December, when William Hill reported potential fraud to the agency using internal information from their sports betting kiosks. And while the full impact of the crime has not been disclosed, the company (which is owned by Caesars) has well over a hundred sportsbooks locations in the state.

There have been no public comments about the William Hill embezzlement operation from the company or from Caesars. However, public records of court documents name two individuals: Shravan Singh, who is charged with embezzlement, forgery, and more; and Paige Steiner, who is facing nearly 300 charges related to burglary, grand larceny, and conspiracy.

No details of how the crimes were perpetrated was released. After all, there’s nothing to be gained by exposing an internal vulnerability. However, there were details mentioned about thousands of “fraudulent adjustments” which took place as a result of the thefts. Added to the forgery charges, it sounds a lot like generating fake winning tickets at kiosks… but we are just guessing.

No matter. The bad guys are in jail and the William Hill embezzlement plot has been shut down. Maybe the company will even recover some of the money. It’s been a bad week for Will Hill, with their app crashing during the Super Bowl resulting in lost bets. Then they gave away thousands in free bet bonuses to make up for that mistake. And now this.
