Nevada Gaming Revenue Hits $1.2 Billion in August

Industry

Nevada gaming revenue kept up their winning ways in August, extending their winning streak to an amazing 30th consecutive month of generating over a billion dollars. Casinos raked in right at $1.2 billion in revenue, as reported by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

This figure remains largely consistent compared to August of the previous year, albeit a slight decrease from the record-breaking Nevada gaming revenue of $1.4 billion achieved in July. Revenue from the Strip was hit by a decrease of 3.4% in slots winnings, but this was offset somewhat by a gain of over 7% in table game money.

On the iconic Las Vegas Strip, the gaming win for the past month reached $666.8 million, reflecting a modest 1% increase compared to the same month last year. In total, Nevada garnered $75.7 million in percentage fees based on the taxable revenue generated during the month of August.

At least one Control Board member stated that the Nevada gaming revenue numbers could have been higher, but that Hurricane Hilary hurt tourism. The storm caused many airlines to cancel  hundreds of flights at Harry Reid International Airport.

However, the numbers indicate that the storm did not affect the city as much as thought, Las Vegas had over 3.3 million visitors in August, which was a 4% increase from the previous. Attendance at conventions also rose well over 60%, due mostly to a large conference moving from July to August.
