EstrelaBet has officially received its definitive license to operate in Brazil’s regulated iGaming market, as the industry adapts to the framework established under Law No. 14,790/2023. The company’s approval was published in the Official Gazette on Tuesday, confirming its compliance with the new legal and regulatory requirements overseen by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance (SPA-MF).
With the regulation taking full effect on January 1, 2025, EstrelaBet successfully met all licensing conditions, including the mandatory payment of R$30 million (US$5.25 million) and securing certification from Gaming Laboratories International (GLI), which ensures operational security and compliance.
“This recognition is the result of years of work, commitment, and dialogue with regulatory authorities. We always seek to offer a safe, responsible, and innovative experience to our users,” said João Gerçossimo, CEO of EstrelaBet.
In anticipation of the regulatory shift, EstrelaBet has been implementing strategic measures since December 2023 to align with industry requirements. These include the mandatory re-registration of users with facial biometrics, the introduction of 24-hour voice support, and the establishment of a dedicated ombudsman to handle customer concerns.
Among its efforts is a Scientific Cooperation Agreement with FUMEC University, which provides free counseling sessions to mitigate gambling-related risks and uses predictive analytics to detect early signs of problem gambling.
“Obtaining the definitive license is a big step, and the real work begins now. The regulated market is still in its early days, and we have the responsibility to actively contribute to its development,” Gerçossimo added.
“Our commitment goes beyond regulated operations: we want to foster good practices, promote responsible gaming, and establish a constant dialogue with society and authorities to ensure entertainment in a new sector in a sustainable and safe way for everyone.”
EstrelaBet has gained recognition in the Brazilian industry, having won ‘Best Sports Betting Operator in Brazil’ and ‘Rising Star of the Year’ at the SBC Awards Latinoamérica 2022. The company maintains offices in Belo Horizonte and São Paulo and has been an early applicant for licensing in Brazil’s newly regulated betting sector.
