GGPoker added to its already impressive roster, which includes the likes of Daniel Negreanu and Fedor Holz, by signing Jason Koon to the team. The online poker site formally introduced the newest ambassador to the public this evening at the Rio during the 2021 World Series of Poker.
Koon is one of the top players in the world, having cashed for $32.5 million in live tournaments, good for 10th all-time. The West Virginia native previously served as an ambassador for partypoker but moved on from the company at the end of July. He was announced as the new GGPoker ambassador during a 4 p.m. ceremony at the Rio.
Koon was already in attendance at the WSOP’s host venue on Sunday competing in Event #6: $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em. He entered Day 2 with the second smallest stack out of 54 remaining players. On a break, Koon spoke with PokerNews’ Lara Neacy.
Passionate About Poker Site Security and Game Integrity
Adding Koon was a strong play by GGPoker, the first poker site in years to give PokerStars some serious competition for traffic. The high stakes crusher brings more star power to the site and, more importantly, an expertise in game integrity being that he’s played poker online for years.
“I’ve studied AI extensively for the last six years or so,” Koon told PokerNews.
GGPoker’s staff has spent countless hours behind the scenes ensuring the software is safe and secure and games are legit. Koon is joining the already impressive roster to lend a helping hand from a player’s perspective in this area. The high roller superstar is considered by his peers to be one of the most ethical players in the game, hence why he’s been tasked to take on this role.
“At GGPoker, we view ambassadors as part of our overall team,” John Scanlon, GGPoker’s director of sponsorships and live events, said in a press release. “We want them as bought into keeping GGPoker the #1 site in the world as we are. Jason’s reputation and how he handles himself personally and professionally makes him an ideal Global Ambassador. Having a player of his caliber providing advice and direction, and representing the most committed segment of our player community, is invaluable for us.”
Koon becomes the fifth major ambassador for GGPoker, joining Daniel Negreanu, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Fedor Holz, and Dan Bilzerian.
PokerNews caught up with Negreanu for his thoughts on his newest GGPoker teammate.
“One of the things that’s unique and special about GGPoker is we have a really robust high stakes community, and Jason is in the trenches with those players,” Negreanu said. “He knows what’s going on, he has a fantastic reputation, and he’s going to add an element in terms of security and as a liaison to these high rollers who are a different breed. So, it’s really great to have Jason on board.”
