US Casinos Continue to Grow and Set Records

Industry

We have a big week of gambling news to share! Gambling records being broken, and US casinos are growing, as is sports betting and online betting! Plus, in this video we have a new game review to share and an anniversary to celebrate!

Hello players, and thanks so much for joining me on another edition of This Week in Gambling where we have news from casinos, sports betting, and scratch cards? But first it’s this week’s big story!

On our show from May 4th of this year we told you that Las Vegas casinos had set their second highest monthly revenue totals ever! And now those crazy kids have gone and done it again! Casinos in Nevada won $1.23 billion in the month of May, shattering the previous record of $1.17 billion. So I guess you can honestly say Sin City has made a full recovery from the pandemic!

That recovery is not exclusive to the state of Nevada! US casinos in Mississippi are also up over 20% bringing in over a billion dollars for that state as well. Officials in Mississippi credit post pandemic tourism. And even though Louisiana is still under some COVID restrictions, casinos in New Orleans were able to bring in nearly $60 million! Plus, sports betting is set to launch in that state as early as October. So things are looking up!

And speaking of sports betting, Tennessee brought in over $160 million in the month of May from bets placed on sporting events. That’s actually a decrease of nearly 7%. So it’s not all good news, but not totally unexpected either. Sports betting tends to slow down after the passage of the Super Bowl and March Madness.

And in Kentucky, gambling generated nearly $1.5 billion for the fiscal year, which was an increase of 35% from the year before, with most of the state’s gaming income coming from scratch cards! Don’t count out online gambling, however, because that is also growing and gaining popularity in the state. As a matter of fact, Kentucky tried to put scratch cards online but too many people complained. It seems they were scratching up the screens on their cell phones.

This week’s game review is for the Diamondz online slot (that’s Diamondz with a “Z”) from our friends at Synot Gaming. This is a 5 reel, 3 row game with 20 pay lines that comes with a bonus round and bonus spins, both wild and scatter symbols, and a gamble feature! You can find this game review and hundreds more when you visit our YouTube channel.

And finally this week I would like to wish some US casinos a happy birthday! Station Casinos are celebrating their 45th year in Las Vegas, and if they’re anything like most 45 year olds they’re going to buy a Porsche, get some hair plugs, and start dating a 23 year old coed named Bambi… I’m not criticizing just pointing out the obvious.
