November 26 is “Career Day” for people in Cyprus who are thinking about joining the local casino industry and to prepare for work when the Meclo Cyprus City of Dreams Mediterranean IR is fully operational in Limassol.

Expected to launch in the second half of next year, the integrated resort and casino will be the largest integrated resort in all of Europe.

While the integrated resort and casino opening is still perhaps a year into the future, the firm’s ‘Temporary casino’, C2 – Cyprus Casinos, has been open since June 2018.

Hiring for Most Positions

Melco Cyprus currently has about 700 employees with that number expected to reach about 2,500 in the coming months. Most of the team are ‘locals’ at this point and it’s expected that the majority of employees will be Cypriots when the casino and resort open later in 2022. Throughout the course of construction, some 4,000 job opportunities are expected to be created.

In a statement published on Wednesday, Mr. Emilios Rotsides, Vice President, Human Resources of Melco Cyprus, said: “Melco’s global philosophy on recruitment is ‘we hire on attitude, image and potential and we train on skills.’

In the Company’s commitment to become one of the biggest employers in Cyprus, emphasis is placed on providing quality jobs and specialised training programmes to encourage colleague development. Melco offers competitive (remuneration) and benefits packages and opportunities for internal advancement, as well as career pathways in the global entertainment industry. Potential applicants are encouraged to visit the Open Career Day to kick-start their professional career in the industry”.

According to the statement, vacancies are currently open at the C2 (temporary casino) in Limassol as well as the smaller satellite casinos in Ayia Napa, Nicosia, and Paphos. Cashiers, Dealers, Drivers, Duty Lead Technicians, Gaming Machines Attendants, Hosts, Loyalty Services, Property Services, Security Officers, and Technicians were all invited to apply.

Melco Cyprus was awarded the first casino license in the Republic of Cyprus. The consortium consists of Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd of Asia and the local conglomerate The Cyprus Phassouri (Zakaki) Limited – a member of the CNS Group. After a years-long and sometimes heated battle among many of the top casino corporations worldwide, Melco Cyprus won the bidding for an exclusive 30-year license.

Europe’s Largest Integrated Casino Resort

When completed, City of Dreams Mediterranean will feature 500 luxury guest rooms over 14 stories along with 10,000 sqm (107,000 sq ft) of meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) space along with more than 80,000 sq ft of casino floor space.

A family adventure park, outdoor amphitheater, luxury retail, and a variety of fine dining outlets will also be provided.

More than a quarter-million new visitors are expected each year with a significant portion of those visiting during the off-season when the republic’s beaches and other tourist sites have historically seen low tourist numbers.
