Las Vegas Sidewalk Vendor Ban

Industry

Ever get a bit annoyed by all the sales people on the Strip? Well, a new Las Vegas sidewalk vendor ban could help ease some of that. Clark County commissioners have approved a new ordinance which prohibits sidewalk sales people within 1,500 feet of resorts, large sports arenas, most convention centers, and the Welcome to Las Vegas sign!

The Nevada Resort Association has also been concerned about this issue, and they’re watching the Las Vegas sidewalk vendor ban with interest. The new regulation will help set up licensing fees, and designate specific zones where sidewalk vending will be permitted.

“We know the congestion on sidewalks, which are not sized for commercial activity. Pedestrians need to be able to move safely throughout the corridor,” said Virginia Valentine, President & CEO at Resort Association. “We know congestion can create opportunities for crime and creates challenges for those with limited mobility and makes it harder for first responders…”

The Las Vegas sidewalk vendor ban follows the passage of Senate Bill 92 earlier this year and is slated to take effect on October 17th. It will establish regulations for licensing,  fees and designate specific zones in both residential and commercial areas where sidewalk vending will be permitted.

Commenting on her hopes for this new ban, Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick stated, “I want to tell you that I’ve been to the Las Vegas sign in the last month. I can’t wait to start enforcing it.”
