888poker’s $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event surpassed its guarantee thanks to 1,012 entrants exchanging $109 for 15,000 chips and the chance to become an 888poker champion. It was an impressive turnout, considering the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is in full swing, going some way to showing how popular this mystery bounty tournament is.
Day 1 ended with only nine players in the mix and the largest mystery bounties already claimed. “PKaiser” pulled a $3,000 bounty before falling in 47th. Germany’s “Avicenna” also grabbed a $3,000 bounty, but it was “Micou8” of Canada who literally hit the jackpot; their mystery bounty envelope contained $10,000!
Ukraine’s “odnolya” sat down at the final table with a sizable lead, but viewers of the excellent 888poker Twitch channel know that the chip leader does not always finish on top once the dust settles.
$100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event Final Table Chip Counts

---|---|---|---|---|
1 | odnolya | Ukraine | 3,787,987 | 63 |
2 | SmellyRodent | United Kingdom | 2,864,397 | 48 |
3 | Smetana.ru | Germany | 2,686,356 | 45 |
4 | julgen | United Kingdom | 2,286,062 | 38 |
5 | kojgysto888 | Denmark | 1,203,911 | 20 |
6 | Trendki11 | Georgia | 894,276 | 15 |
7 | Thyrone | Sweden | 788,462 | 13 |
8 | FakeAustrian | 688,549 | 11 |
The finalists had only played a little over ten minutes before one of them crashed out. “Smetana.ru” min-raised from late position with queen-ten of diamonds, “FakeAustrian” three-bet all-in for 398,549 on the button with ace-queen, and the initial raiser was priced in to call, which is what they did. Two tens on the flop left “FakeAustrian” drawing thin, with the turn leaving them drawing dead.
A huge pot during the next blind level resulted in another player bowing out. Sweden’s “Thyrone” min-raised to 140,000 with ace-ten before calling the 1,042,661 shove that “kojgysto888” made on the button with ace-king. Both players flopped an ace, but “Thyrone” improved to two pair on the turn. A brick river and the final table was down to six players.
Those six became five with the untimely demise of “Thyrone” who was the chip leader as six-handed play started. After losing half their stack, “Thryone” decided to get tricky with pocket queens, and only called the 176,000 raise “Smetana.ru” made. The flop fell five-jack-ace all dimaonds, and “Thyrone” held the queen of diamonds. “Smetana.ru” led for 266,000, and was called. The turn brought the five of spades into view. “Smetana.ru” moved all-in to put “Thyrone” to the test for their 763,828 stack. “Thyrone” called, needing a queen or a diamond, but the river was another five.
The final table lost another player after a huge coinflip did not go the way of “julgen.” The hand started with “julgen” making a slightly larger than min-raise to 210,000 with ace-king on the button. “Smetana.ru” three-bet all-in from the big blind with pocket nines, and the initial raiser called off the 25 big blinds they had behind. Those nines held on a ten-high board, sending “julgen” to the showers and “Smetana.ru” into the chip lead.
Fourth place went to “Trendki11” despite them making quad fives and improving their stack to almost 30 big blinds. They lost a little ground before finding ace-queen of diamonds on the button, which they min-raised to 240,000. “SmellyRodent” three-bet all-in for 2,947,927 from the big blind with pocket jacks, and “Trendki11” called all-in for slightly less. Two diamonds appeared on the flop but the jacks ultimately held.
The $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event progressed to heads-up with the elimination of “odnolya” of Ukraine. The damage to “odnolya”‘s stack was done in a massive hand involving “SmellyRodent.” First, “Smetana.ru” min-raised to 280,000 on the button with king-jack, then, “SmellyRodent” three-bet to 980,000 in the small blind with pocket tens. “odnolya” woke up in the big blind with ace-king, and jammed for 5,486,216. The initial raiser had seen enough and folded, but “SmellyRodent” called and took the flip. The tens held on a double-paired board, all but busting “odnolya” who was left with less than three big blinds.
The tiny stack’s attempts to claw their way back in into contention fell flat on the next hand, their ace-queen losing to the eight-three of “Smetana.ru.”
“Smetana.ru” managed to pull level, which prompted the heads-up dup to discuss a deal. Those discussions bore fruit, and the tournament resumed with “Smetana.ru” guaranteeing themselves around $500 more than they were guaranteed.
The deal altered the playing styles of both player, evident by “SmellyRodent” open-shoving with seven-trey of spades. That shove was called by ace-queen, which lost courtesy of a three and a seven on the board. Two hands later, “Smetana.ru”‘s micro-stack went into the middle with six-deuce and lost to king-queen.
