Can Doug Polk Prove the Online Poker Dream is Still Alive in $100K Challenge?

Doug Polk has another online poker challenge planned, this one on ClubWPT Gold, a new social poker site that is, at the very least, entertaining the poker community on X.

The heads-up poker legend and co-owner of The Lodge Card Club near Austin, Texas is setting out to win $100,000 playing online poker in a month. Per his tweet, he will begin the challenge March 3, and livestream the action throughout on his YouTube channel, where he has 420,000 subscribers.

Polk’s purpose, which he explained in a YouTube video, is to show the poker world “the dream is still alive,” referring to skilled players being able to win online without cheating. The increased presence of real-time assistance (RTA) tools, ghosting, and collusion has scared some players away from playing poker online in recent years. But the high-stakes player appears to be convinced the dream isn’t dead.

Newest Online Poker Challenge

As with any online poker challenge Polk is involved with, there’s going to be a giveaway. The three-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner will give back every cent of his profits during the “Code Doug” challenge to those who sign-up on ClubWPT Gold and use the code “DOUG.”

ClubWPT Gold is a social poker site available in the United States in partnership with the World Poker Tour (WPT). The site launched in beta form late last year and made headlines in December with its record-setting $5 million guaranteed ClubWPT Gold Invitational Freeroll during the WPT World Championship festival at Wynn Las Vegas.

The platform uses a sweepstakes model similar to that of Global Poker, and is legal in the US. Players do not purchase traditional chips with money. They instead sign-up and play for free using Gold Coins (GC) or purchase Sweeps Coins (SC), which players can turn into real money prizes.

Polk told PokerNews he will exclusively play ring games during the “Code Doug” challenge, specifically no-limit hold’em.

The Upswing Poker founder is no stranger to online poker challenges. He took on a $100 to $10,000 bankroll challenge in 2018, which he successfully completed, but it took him quite some time to get it done. Polk, a heads-up specialist, also beat his former rival Daniel Negreanu for $1.2 million across 25,000 hands four years ago.

ClubWPT Gold has been generating attention recently due to its ruthless X account (probably, almost certainly run by Polk’s talented video editor Thomas Keeling). The account does not hold back in poking fun at just about anyone or any company in the poker community, including vloggers.
