Allwyn initiates nationwide trial of modernized National Lottery retail equipment

Allwyn has commenced a trial rollout of brand new National Lottery permanent point of sale (PPOS) in select stores across the UK. This initiative marks the next phase of Allwyn’s investment in retail, through which the company says it aims to modernize store environments and drive in-store sales.

Collaborating with accessibility and sustainability experts, Allwyn has designed a family of PPOS that feature eye-catching branding while fostering accessibility. The kit includes an illuminated Scratchcard dispenser with integrated lighting and an HD screen, alongside a new Playstation featuring double-sided graphics and information displays about local National Lottery-funded projects.

Raj Kularajah, owner of Twinsco store in St Albans, shared his positive experience with the new equipment in a press release, noting its impact on customer engagement and participation in National Lottery games. He praised the Scratchcard dispenser for its illuminating effect on individual games, attracting new players to try their luck.

“I was delighted to be selected as the first independent store to have the new PPOS installed and to be able to provide feedback on the equipment to help with the wider rollout. After it was first installed, two of my regular customers who had never played the lottery before saw the new kit and decided to play EuroMillions, which is absolutely excellent,” Kularajah said.

Allwyn’s Director of Channel Operations, Alex Green, expressed excitement about the trial deployment, emphasizing the company’s commitment to delivering societal benefits through accessible and sustainable solutions. Green highlighted the importance of trialing the new PPOS to ensure its seamless integration into the retail environment before a wider rollout across Allwyn’s network of outlets.

The project to equip retailers with the very best National Lottery PPOS also represents the next stage of our investment in retail and signals our commitment to the channel as a whole, with retail being central to our vision to grow The National Lottery responsibly over the next 10 years,” Green said.

The next phase of the PPOS rollout will see around 40 stores equipped with the new kit by the end of May, with plans to extend the deployment to an additional 10,000 outlets later in the year. The comprehensive rollout through the autumn and into 2025 aims to transform the retail landscape, according to Allwyn.
